He appears during the summer plaza dances in May and June when clowns are present. This katsina represents the summer rains needed for the dry farmed crops. His duty is also to make the children behave. He wears a costume the same as the famous snake dancers. The snake is thought to be a powerful animal by the Hopi and believed to control rainfall.
